Are your sites ready for HSE spot checks?
This week, the HSE have confirmed they’re carrying out unannounced inspections across construction sites in Manchester. Inspectors are visiting all types of projects to check how Health and Safety is being managed day to day, not just in the paperwork.
At Anderton Gables, we are working directly with contractors to help them stay on top of compliance, without overcomplicating things.
What are HSE Inspectors looking for?
This round of HSE inspections are targeting some of the biggest and most persistent health risks in construction. Inspectors will be checking that businesses aren’t just aware of these risks, but are actively managing them on site.
These include:-
Asbestos
Dust
Noise
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
Health Surveillance
Why it matters…
These checks aren’t about catching people out, but they do highlight where standards are slipping.
For contractors, it’s a reminder that “it will be fine” isn’t a plan.
The HSE expect to see clear management of risk and people on site who understand what good looks like.
How we help contractors stay inspection ready…
Our support is hands-on and practical.
Reviewing RAMS and Procedures - We review your Risk Assessments and Method Statements to make sure they’re not just compliant, but realistic. Written in plain language your team can follow with controls that actually fit the work being done.
Visiting Sites - We regularly visit live sites to see how safety measures are being applied in practice. This helps spot gaps early and gives you a real-time view of where improvements can be made before inspectors arrive.
Collaborate with Teams - We spend time with site managers and operatives to understand how things work day to day. That means we can identify where training, communication or supervision might need tightening up and make sure everyone knows what “good” looks like.
Putting Sensible Controls in Place - We don’t overcomplicate things. We help you implement proportionate, achievable safety measures that protect your team and your business without slowing down productivity. Putting sensible controls in place that actually work.
The Result - Confidence that your sites are safe, your people are protected and your business is inspection ready - without drowning in paperwork!
Let’s Talk
The HSE will continue these visits over the coming months, so it’s worth taking the time now to make sure the fundamentals are in place: welfare, supervision, competence and clear communication on site.
