Let’s see what our Chartered Building Surveyor Daniel Whelan has been up to in his first year here at AG…
It has been just over 12 months since you joined AG! How has the last year been for you?
I have loved my time at AG. It feels like I have been here a lot longer than a year. Tom Hargreaves and Mike Boyle said they felt it was more like 5 years, but I can honestly say I have enjoyed every day. I feel like I have learnt so much and progressed so far in my first 12 months and I am looking forward to seeing how I progress within the next 12 months.
Do you remember your first day? Where you nervous?
I remember it very well. Guy Crouch asked if I was ok? He could sense I was very nervous! It was my first company move so I didn’t really know what to expect. I had recently become chartered, so it was a lot of change to deal with over a short period of time.
To date, what is your favourite project worked on?
I have enjoyed all the projects I have dealt with so far, particularly working with Golden Lane Housing and upgrading and adapting their properties. This resulted in really good feedback which is always a bonus. I have also enjoyed the exposure to commercial work and working with the commercial team.
Describe one of your biggest achievements so far in your career
Becoming Chartered by a long way. This gave me the opportunity to move to AG and progress as a surveyor.
What would you say to anyone wanting to join Team AG?
If you are looking for progression and support, like to be exposed to a mixture of surveying work as well as having fun and a laugh in the office then AG is the place to work!
What is the next goal you want to achieve in your career?
To become Senior Chartered Building Surveyor and build a bigger client base.
Finally, what is the most satisfying part of your job?
Work wise it is providing solutions to client’s problems. But the best part is working with a great team and having a laugh in the office.
