The former 15th Century White Lion Public house is a landmark building located in the city centre of Stockport. The Grade 11 listed Building is in a derelict and poor state of repair and has been vacant for several years. In order to preserve and bring the building back into use it is proposed that part of the Grade 2 Listed Building is converted into residential use(C3). The conversion of part ground floor, first, second and third floors to residential use will provide 1 two bed roomed duplex and 10 apartments.

It is intended that the conversion of the building will be carried out sympathetically to the original and will protect heritage assets where possible. It is proposed that the central timber staircase will be protected and restored and original timber glazed windows will be refurbished throughout, incorporating original lead glazing.

The external fabric is to be retained as original and repairs carried out to timber and stone work and render panels where needed. Roof repairs are also to be carried out incorporating renewal and repairs to rainwater goods, chimney and flashings as required. Internal timbers have been severely affected by dry rot due to the poor condition of the building and constant water ingress over the years. It is intended that timbers are replaced and treated as per the in-depth report and proposals carried out by timber specialist.
