Appointment on Grade II Listed Building

We are delighted to announce our appointment as Employer’s Agent and Cost Consultant together with Principal Designer on the renovation of the Grade II listed White Lion pub in Stockport town centre for Laurus Homes in conjunction with Stockport Council.

The Grade II-listed White Lion, which is situated on the corner of Great Underbank and Lower Hillgate in Stockport town centre, will be transformed into flats and restaurants.

AG’s Stuart Carter commented, ‘The White Lion is a major scheme in the redevelopment of the Underbanks area of Stockport and is a fantastic opportunity to work on such a prestigious building entwined in the City’s history.  Such schemes, although challenging, are very rewarding as they help to preserve the character of the area whilst breathing new life into such a beautiful building.’

Paul Westhead from Laurus Homes said: “Listed sites of great historic importance like the White Lion pub can be very challenging to convert successfully and many developers won’t undertake the work because of the potential financial risks.

“However, being part of a progressive housing association like Trafford Housing Trust, which is committed to regenerating neighbourhoods rather than simply selling houses for a profit, we are able to work in partnership with local authorities and take on sensitive projects like these.”

We will be updating you throughout the progress of this exciting project, meanwhile, further information can be found here: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/derelict-fifteenth-century-pub-transformed-14050215
